Secondhand Serenade- I Hate This Song
“Speak with your tongue tied,
I know that you're tired
But I just want to know,
Where you want to go,
I may be sad, But I'm not weak,
This situation is bleak
And your puffy eyes never lie,
Your tears come from inside.
Until Sunday I'll be waiting for an answer
I guess that yesterday's not good enough for you,
You know that I hate this song,
You know that I hate this song
Because it was written for you
Drown your fears with me
I'm feeling real sorry
Your glossy eyes don't need
The sadness they have seen
But you're way too deep to swim
Back up again
But somehow I can't find
The moment you said goodbye
Until Sunday I'll be waiting for an answer
I guess that yesterday's not good enough for you,
You know that I hate this song,
You know that I hate this song
Because it was written for you
This is becoming a problem I'm hurting it's unfair
But somehow your words,
The way that I heard are haunting me,
You're under my skin
You're breaking in,
And our tasteless fights that filled our nights
Are starting to cave in,
You're under my skin
You're breaking in
And if Sunday's what it takes to prove
I have nothing else to lose
Until Sunday I'll be waiting for an answer
I guess that yesterday's not good enough for you,
You know that I hate this song,
You know that I hate this song
Because it was written for you”

My Kind of Music
Secondhand Serenade- I Hate This Song
The song "Secondhand Serenade- I Hate This Song" was released in 2006 on MySpace.com by the singer himself, John Vesely, and he earned a lot of money on that album. Awake was his first album, it contains 12 songs and "I Hate This Song" is one of them. Since he earned a lot of money on this first album and became kind of famous, Glassnote Records labelled Secondhand Serenade in 2007 and the album were reissued. He also released a second album in 2008 and it's even greater then the first one and very soon his third album will be released. John Vesely writes his own songs and creates his own music with his guitar and a lot of technology.
When I listen to the song I directly think about unrequited love and a lot of pain. It's a deep song with a lot of strong words that really explain another person’s pain. If you read between the lines and try to really think deep you'll understand that the person who wrote the song really miss another person.
I think the song is sort of cute because of the guy's way of explaining his love to the girl he's in love with and that he understands the pain that she's feeling. She clearly hurted him but he can't just forget her and all the things they had. The memories are just to wonderful and to strong to forget. He can't get her out of his mind. Because of that he gives her a second chance. She has to make up her mind until Sunday, according to the song text, and really think if she wants him or not. At the same time he can see the pain she's struggling with. He can see that she's suffering because of the past and she clearly been through much because she's depressed. It's like she's trying to hide her pain but her "puffy eyes never lie" and he see through her.
I understand what the person mean and what the person is trying to explain. Sometimes things happen that you don't want to happen. And when it does you sometimes get depressed, angry, disappointed and sad. And you feel like the problems have no solutions. Sometimes it also feels like you're "to deep to swim back up again" and when you do feel that way it feels like everything is impossible. The only thing to do when you feel that way is to help yourself because you can't count on anyone that they are going to help you out or being understanding. The only thing to do is to do something that cheers you up and you can't depend on anyone else. People are selfish; it's in our nature, so count them out immediately when you feel that way. Be independent and stick up for yourself, that's what I did and it helped me a lot.
I think the hidden message in this song, or pretty obvious message, is to give people second chances. If you really like or love another person and trust that human being is the person, almost, always worth a second chance. And even if the person you love have once hurted you, don't give up because people change and you might get another try with that person.
I chose this topic because I love to write about things that I love and things that I can recognize myself in. This song by Secondhand Serenade is a song that I can, in some way, recognize myself in. I also chose this song because I love songs that are kind of deep and you have to read between the lines and come up with a story by yourself of what the text is about. This song has almost everything; love, pain, betray and more. I really think that almost everybody can listen to this song, no matter which age you are. But to really understand the song and read between the lines you have to be good in English because some of the words and sentences is hard to understand if you're not good in English. And I think that you have to be a very deep person that easily understands another person's pain to really understand the song. If you're not good in English, just listen to the great singer's vocal and the acoustic rock music that the singer plays. It's a great song and I think that everybody should sometime in life listen to it.
